I will begin my talk with a brief introduction to the chronological framework and archaeological cultures in the Primorye Province, south of the Russian Far East. Some main achievements as well as unsolved issues in this region will be discussed. Then, I will introduce my archaeobotanical studies in the Primorye Province since the late 1990s. My research mainly focuses on the advent and development of agriculture in this region. Our data show the millet agriculture appeared in the region as a result of human migrations from the neighboring Northeast China and North Koreaback in the Late Neolithic. Agriculture did not play a major role in the local subsistence system for quite a long time, and its importance was clearly and increasingly evidenced until the Bronze and Iron Ages.
