Curriculum Vitae

Patrick Roberts erhielt seinen BA in Archäologie und Anthropologie und seinen MSc in Archäologischen Wissenschaften an der Universität Oxford. Sein DPhil in Archäologischen Wissenschaften schloss er ebenfalls in Oxford mit dem Thema “Fruits of the Forest: Human stable isotope ecology and rainforest adaptations in Late Pleistocene and Holocene Sri Lanka” ab. Seine bisherige Forschung hatte die Anwendung der stabilen Isotopen Analyse an menschlichen und tierischen Fossilien des Spätpleistozäns zum Fokus, um Erkenntnisse zur Anpassung des Menschen an den Regenwald in Sri Lanka zu gewinnen. Diese Daten leisten einen wertvollen Beitrag zur Diskussion über das Nahrungsverhalten und die Anpassung unserer Spezies an das Regenwald Habitat in einem breiteren Kontext. Patrick war Teilnehmer am UNESCO Symposium von Archäologen und Anthropologen mit dem Ziel Lösungen zur Erhaltung des ökologischen und kulturellen Erbes im globalen Regenwald zu erarbeiten.

Als Gruppenleiter des Stabilen Isotopen Labors der Forschungsgruppe Archäologie hat Patrick das Ziel, stabile Isotopen Methoden zu entwickeln und in multidisziplinären Forschungsfragen zur Interaktion Mensch Paläoklima, Paläoumwelt, Paläodiät und Paläomobilität anzuwenden.

Patrick’s Publikationen in internationalen peer-reviewed Journals zeigen seine Expertise in der erfolgreichen Anwendung von stabilen Isotopen in verschiedenen archäologischen Forschungsfragen: von der Rekonstruktion von Paläoumweltbedingungen in Ost- und Südafrika, Südasien, Saudi Arabien assoziiert mit menschlicher Siedlungsgeschichte in diesen Regionen während des Pleistozäns, bis hin zum menschlichen Nahrungsverhalten im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert. Weitere Forschungsinteressen sind: früh-hominine Kognition, hominine Ausbreitung, Aussterben von Megafauna und die Beziehung zwischen Klimawandel und Kulturwandel unserer Spezies.
