The Speaker

Ammie Kalan is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology where she investigates the drivers of chimpanzee behavioural and cultural diversity as part of the Pan African Programme (PanAf). She conducted her doctoral thesis on chimpanzee vocal communication and using bioacoustics to monitor forest primates in the wild. In addition to her current postdoc, Ammie leads a project on chimpanzee accumulative stone throwing, a behaviour recently discovered by the PanAf, where she combines her expertise in chimpanzee communication, tool use and culture.
