Landscape changes in Late Holocene West Africa – the human factor
The speaker

The speaker

Alexa Höhn is a member of the African Archaeobotany research group at the Institute for Archaeological Sciences at Goethe University, Frankfurt. The group focuses its research on the origin and development of African plant food production and on Late Quaternary vegetation history in West and Central Africa as related to climate and human impact. In her current research project, she aims to relate formation, propagation, and development of cultivated landscapes to land-use practices, as well as to environmental settings. Based on the analyses of archaeological charcoal from sites in several key regions in the West African savannas, dating between 1500 BCE and 1500 CE, it traces the consequences of human-environment interactions within space and time.
