Dr. Mario Mata-González (He/his)
Main Focus
As a zooarchaeologist, I study hominin-animal interactions during the Late Pleistocene-Early Holocene, with
a special focus on the reconstruction of site formation processes, hominin subsistence
strategies, and paleoenvironmental conditions. Overall, my research aims to document
how hominins exploited and adapted to new and different environments, and their long-term impact on local
ecosystems.
Curriculum Vitae
Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher in Mediterranean zooarchaeology and vertebrate paleontology within the European Research Council-funded ISLANDLAB project, based at the Department of Classics and Archaeology of the University of Malta. Before that, I received a BA in History at the University of Granada (Spain), and a MSc and a PhD in Archaeological Sciences at the University of Tübingen (Germany).
