The Computational Population Genetics Workshop is for students from a variety of disciplines who are new to this field and want to learn about population genetics and bioinformatic data analysis of human genomic data.

We are holding a workshop on Computational Population Genetics, which is open to students from a variety of disciplines who are new to this field and want to learn about population genetics and bioinformatic data analysis of human genomic data. There are no major prerequisites, except for a laptop with a web browser. Some basic familiarity with the Unix command line environment will help.

The topics will include:
• Basic introductions to programming in bash and python
• Working with Jupyter Notebooks
• Data visualisation
• How to work with BAM files
• Authenticating ancient DNA
• Contamination tests
• Principal Components Analyses
• F statistics
• …and more…

The workshop is organised by Stephan Schiffels, Choongwon Jeong (MPI-SHH) and Benjamin Peter (MPI-EVA), with additional tutors from the MPI-SHH. The course is open to students from both MPIs, as well as students from the Friedrich-Schiller-University in Jena. Attendees will receive a certificate for 1 ECTS point with the International Max Planck Research School for the Science of Human History.
