Joint MPI Job Offer: Research Group Leader (W2) - Extreme events in biological, societal and Earth systems

The Max Planck Institutes for the Science of Human History, Biogeochemistry and Chemical Ecology invite applications for a Max Planck Research Group Leader (W2) position on the topic of extreme events in biological, societal and Earth systems.

February 27, 2018

Archaeologists and interdisciplinary scientists interested in extreme events, such as climate variability and its effect on human populations, will be interested in this W2 Group Leader post. The Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History and two other Jena-based Max Planck Institutes invite applicants for this position to investigate cross-cutting topics. Among the archaeological questions to explore are: How are short- and long-term impacts of extreme events recorded in archaeological, chemical, biological and Earth system records? How important are extreme events (climatic, environmental, social) for human history and evolution, and what is their potential to drive future disruptions?

Any interested archaeologists, or those from a related field, can contact the Director of the Department of Archaeology Nicole Boivin (boivin@shh.mpg.de) or Professor Michael Petraglia (petraglia@shh.mpg.de). For more information, please click here.
