Arrival

Arrival and departure is possible around the clock. You will get your transponder and information material about the guesthouse at the reception of the institute. Opening hours of the reception desk: Monday – Thursday 8:00 am – 3:30 pm, Friday 8:00 am – 2:00 pm.

If you arrive outside the opening hours of the reception you will get a code for our key-box-system. Without key-code, there is no possibility to get your room key. In that case you cannot use your guest room!

Restaurants and shopping opportunities

The city center can be reached by foot in about 20-25 minutes. Here, many restaurants can be found, in particularin Wagnergasse and at Marktplatz. The malls Goethegalerie and Neue Mitte offer numerous shopping opportunities. A city map can be found here.

Departure

On the day of your departure, please leave the guest room by 11:00 am and return the keys at the reception desk in the library. If you leave on the weekend or outside business hours, please leave the key on the table in the guest room. You will receive your invoice by mail or E-Mail. Payment can be made via bank transfer (details on the invoice).

Guest rooms and apartments

The guest rooms and apartments are situated on the Institute's premises, above the library. The MPI for the Science of Human History was built in a park-like garden, approximately 15-20 minutes from the train stations Jena Paradies and Jena West.

Features and Fees

The MPI for the Science of Human History has 8 guest rooms and apartments, comprising three single rooms (24 m²), four double rooms with separate living area, bedroom and a small kitchenette (40 m²), as well as one guest apartment with separate kitchen, living area and bedroom (50 m²).

Like all of the Institute´s buildings, the guest house is a non-smoking area.

The rooms can be equipped with an additional bed for an additional fee of 5 Euro per night. All prices include tax (7%), cleaning, linen change, energy and water costs and common kitchen use.

Room amenities and service

All apartments are equipped with a shower/toilet, radio and an alarm clock; towels and bed linen will be provided. Guest rooms are cleaned once a week, including linen change. A laundry room is located in Room U10 of the basement and has both a washing machine and a laundry dryer. Guests can use them for free. Some German newspapers are available in the library. (Opening hours of the reception desk: Monday – Thursday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Friday 8:30 am – 4:00 pm).

A fully equipped guest kitchen (with flat screen TV) can be found on the first floor of the guest area in Room 129. This kitchen can be opened with the guest room key. Please notice: We do not currently have a cafeteria at the institute and kindly advise you to provide for your meals and breakfast yourself. There is the option to order lunch from the institute's catering service, however. If you are interested, please contact the department secretaries for more information.

Internet access

If you bring your own notebook: During your stay, you can access the internet with your notebook by using a 10 or 100 Mbit Ethernet-card or –port. Wireless access is also available.
