The field of cultural evolution has a wealth of talent amongst students and early-career researchers. At the Annual Conference we want to promote the excellent work being carried out by junior scholars, and we have two sessions designed to showcase up-and-coming researchers. Both the Student and Early-Career Showcase sessions will run as plenary sessions, encouraging all conference participants to hear from the shortlisted speakers.

To be eligible for the Student Showcase candidates should be students enrolled in a relevant graduate programme at the time of submission (but shouldn’t have completed their PhD at the time of applying).

To be eligible for the Early-Career Showcase candidates should (i) have a PhD in a relevant topic, and (ii) have less than five years’ postdoctoral experience.

Selection will be on the basis of a scholarly publication: submitted or in-press manuscripts, or published papers. All submitted manuscripts will be treated in strictest confidence and reviewed by the Program Committee only. Your proposed conference presentation should be related to your manuscript but need not be confined by it. You should submit an abstract through the conference website, and include in the keyword field “StudentShowcase” or “EarlyCareerShowcase” as appropriate.

You may also enter the competition with a paper that you wish to present as part of a themed session. If the themed session is accepted, you should deliver your presentation as part of that session, but it will be highlighted on the programme as being part of the Showcase.

Please then follow-up your submission by emailing your manuscript as a single PDF file to with either “Student Showcase” or “Early Career Showcase Submission” as the subject line. In your email please also give the contact details (name, institution, email) of ONE referee who may be contacted for a letter of recommendation. We especially encourage researchers who are women and/or underrepresented minorities to apply.

Please note:
  •     Send only ONE paper or manuscript.
  •     Do NOT send CVs, resumes, transcripts, cover letters, letters of reference etc.
  •     If your manuscript is co-authored, please write a short statement describing your contribution.
  •     Ensure that you have the permission of any co-authors to submit an unpublished manuscript.

The paper accompanying the submission has to be submitted to us before the 1st of June. It has to be submitted or in press by the time it is presented. We strongly recommend that the submitted papers be in a sufficient state of advancement.
